The fundamental reason most consumer ant products produce disappointing results is that they are designed to repel or kill individual foraging ants, not to eliminate the colony. When forager ants encounter a repellent spray barrier, they simply route around it or find a new entry point. The colony underground, which may contain hundreds of thousands of individuals and multiple queens, is completely unaffected. Within days or weeks, foraging activity resumes and the infestation appears to return.
Effective ant control requires a fundamentally different approach: using slow-acting baits that forager ants carry back to the nest, where they are shared with the queen and the rest of the colony through normal feeding behavior.
